"Indefinite Hiatus"
Hey everyone, Cardigan here.
Yup, this again. This time I'm calling it an "indefinite hiatus" rather than a "cancellation" in case there's a chance I come back to this some day (it's already happened once after all). For now though, I'm simply no longer capable of continuing working on Four Seasons Apart and I am sorry.
The idea that I was actually working on it may come as something of a shock since the last release was in October and there have been no related devlogs since. The truth, however, is that I've tried multiple times to work on chapter 5 of 4SA only to be either too frustrated to continue or dissatisfied with what's there, causing me to wipe it clean and start over. Repeat that three times.
There are more motivations behind this decision. I realized pretty early in the development of 4SA that I really don't enjoy working under this "fragmentary" release format. To have the pressure, however small, to keep working on a "released" project, even at a snail's pace and with occupying myself with smaller projects, has damaged my output in all areas. Another reason, and this might be a little vent-y, I just struggle with carrying larger projects like this; longer projects exist in mind, the more I dislike them. I thought I was ready to tackle something larger, but it seems I've miscalculated. Those are the three main reasons for this decision, I hope it's understandable.
To those who wanted to know where the story was going I apologize most of all. Despite all that I've said so far, I do think the plot is solid and where it was going could be interesting, the issue is that I can no longer deliver it. I might post summaries I'd already written for the remaining chapters of Part II and those of Part III if there's any demand for it.
Before we conclude, I'd like to thank and shout out all the visual artists that helped with project.
Nicko has made most of the iconic visual elements of 4SA, including UI and the game page. Thank you so much for your work and patience.
Hunter Husky is the amazing artist behind the first promotional picture for 4SA. Not only is his work excellent, he really understood the dynamic between the Fox and the Hound-inspired characters. Thank you so much.
Ronxt did the second promotional image. If you haven't check their work out I highly recommend you do, especially if you like FVN fanart. They're the sprite artist for Tavios Studio's Right Heart Man, check it out see more of them. Thank you so much!
And that's all I had to say. I once again apologize for everyone expecting a continuation to 4SA. I'll also be restoring a WEB version to the page so it's a little more accessible (the reason for its removal was silly anyway).
Thanks for reading it this far.
